Principles of W. Chun If someone is in a fight, he can remember the principles which can help him to defend himself and beat the opponent. There are many concepts which are included in the W. Chun system of Kung Fu and are the following:
The most obvious principle of W. Chun system maybe is the simplicity. The simplest method of an attack is when a practitioner makes a strike at opponent’s body, face and groin.

Economy of Movement is a second principle in which the practitioners avoid doing large movements because with this way the practitioner looses time. That’s why he makes short and fast movements in order to allow him to make a strong, fast, straight (in a straight line) and effective hit which is hard to defend. Relaxation The fundamental to chinese kung fu W. Chun system is to be relaxed when performing the techniques. When your arms are stiff and tense then, are less fluid and sensitive during trapping and chi sao.
Practicality For a real W. Chun fighter there is something essential, to use practical common sense in self defence. W. Chun as a martial art is very practical, because with a simple, straight, burst of chain punches (hit), you can beat your opponent effectively and quickly. Likewise, many W. Chun fighters use fatal strikes because they aim the vulnerable areas of the opponent’s body such as: the neck, eyes, groin and stomach.
Efficiency and sensitivity
Simultaneous Attack and Defence The practitioners of this martial art learn how to attack and defend at the same time. When a practitioner stops a punch from an opponent with his hand, simultaneously with the other hand make a fast and strong strike to the opponent’s body or face. The Use of Soft Force
Yin and Yang Yin and yang cannot exist without each other. When attack is yang and when defends is yin. Attack and defence is a continuous interplay of yin and yang.
